Graduate Certificate Sustainability

ASU’s online graduate certificate in Sustainability Leadership is specifically designed to assist Soldiers and civilians in fulfilling the goals of the 2010 Army Sustainability Campaign Plan.

This program is offered exclusively for eligible Soldiers and civilians in the United States Army and Army National Guard. ASU Graduate School and School of Sustainability enrollment requirements include:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent from accredited U.S. institution
  • 3.0 GPA or equivalent in the last 60 semester hours or last 90 quarter hours completed
  • Statement of intent
  • Resume or CV (optional)

The Sustainability Leadership certificate is a for-credit graduate level program that consists of five courses, or 15 total credit hours. Each course is three credit hours. Courses will be offered in 7.5-week and 6-week terms. There will be a total of six terms per academic year, allowing students to complete the program in approximately one year.

Delivered entirely online, students will take courses SOS-501 and SOS-502 consecutively or sequentially. Both courses are prerequisites to the final three courses. The remaining three courses may be taken in any order.

Students can elect to apply course credits from the Sustainability Leadership program toward a graduate degree in Sustainability under the following conditions:

  • If certificate program students are admitted to ASU’s Master's in Sustainability program prior to or at completion of three courses, or 9 credit hours
  • Upon completion of the certificate program, students can choose to apply all 15 credit hours toward an ASU graduate degree in a sustainability program of study
  • If a student simultaneously enrolls in the certificate and Master's degree in Sustainability, all 15 credit hours completed in pursuit of the certificate program may be applied toward a Master's degree in Sustainability
