Bachelor's Degree-Health Information Management

The objective of this degree program is to prepare students with the knowledge and technical skills to pursue entry-level employment in the Health Information Management field. This program offers a course of study that provides students with instruction in a variety of areas relevant to the health services administration field, including: billing and coding, healthcare administration and management, and clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKG, x-ray and pharmacology. The coursework also includes basic instruction in human resource management, risk and compliance management, and public relations.

Prior to graduation, students are required to complete both a capstone project and a 6 weeks externship course, which provide hands-on training in the field. Externship sites may require students to submit to a criminal background check, drug screen, medical examination or other requirements.

Upon graduation, students may elect any of the following exams offered by the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT): National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) exam and/or the National Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist (NCICS). All students take Certification Review courses at the end of the program, which are designed to assist in preparing for the exams. However, the College cannot guarantee a student’s eligibility to take the exam, or that they will pass the exam.
