The objective of this program is to provide students with the knowledge and technical skills needed to pursue entry-level employment as Medical Coding and Billing Specialists. The program coursework focuses on helping students gain the basic training necessary to understand and use medical documentation and terminology, as well as assign and sequence diagnostic and procedural codes using universally recognized coding systems. In addition to the basic billing and coding skills, students will receive instruction in basic anatomy, pathology and human diseases along with computer applications and medical data entry.
Upon graduation, students may elect to take the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) exam to become a National Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist (NCICS). All students take a Certification Review course at the end of the program, which is designed to assist in preparing the NCICS exam. However, the College cannot guarantee students’ eligibility to take the exam, or that they will pass the exam. It is the student’s responsibility to inquire into and understand all eligibility requirements. Please refer to the Certification and State Licensure section of this Catalog for additional information.
