Carpentry

FORTIS' Carpentry program is designed to prepare the student for an entry level position in the rewarding field of building construction. The program covers topics such as safety and OSHA regulations, framing, concrete construction, masonry, interior and exterior finishes, print reading, math for carpenters, and building codes. Construction materials and techniques used in the building trades are taught throughout the course using theory and hands-on demonstrations. Throughout the program, students will be mentored by their instructors. Topics that are incorporated into their lessons include interviewing skills, the techniques of finding and retaining a job, human relations, resume preparation, team building, professional appearance and behavior, workplace dynamics, ethics, and good work habits. Upon completion of the program, students will have the knowledge to work on a framing crew, pour and finish concrete, lay various types of flooring, hang and finish wall boards, apply exterior finishes to homes, layout and frame stairs, and apply various types of molding.
