Dental Assistant Program

Duties of a dental assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the dental office. Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. These tasks require both interpersonal and technical skills. Students will learn to work chair-side as dentists examine and treat patients. Our program will prepare students for a rewarding career as a dental assistant. Students will learn all necessary skills for their career, including preparing their own resume, and how to interview successfully and maintain jobs as dental assistants. Accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Some specific tasks dental assistants may perform include:

assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures; communicating with patients and suppliers; teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene to maintain oral health
taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)
serving as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol
preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment; taking impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth)
performing office management tasks that often require the use of a PC
assisting with and helping to provide direct patient care in all dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics and oral surgery.
