Medical Office Administration
The objective of the Medical Office Administration Program is to train students to acquire satisfactory skills and demonstrate competence in a variety of medical/dental office administration procedures, and the skills necessary for entry-level employment in a medical or dental practice. The medical and dental office administration skills include bookkeeping, billing and collection, records management, patient data collection, keyboarding, transcription, word processing, appointment scheduling, written correspondence and telephone techniques. Upon satisfactory completion of the training, students will be qualified to assume entry-level positions as a medical/dental office assistant, medical secretary, medical biller/collector, and insurance claims processor performing the medical/dental office duties described above. This program is offered at the associate of occupational science degree level and students enrolled in this curriculum will be scheduled for general education and intermediate level skills courses. These courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to promote success in their chosen careers. Graduates of the Medical Office Administration program are eligible to sit for the National Certified Medical Office Assistant exam and the National Certified Insurance Coding & Billing Specialist exam. These exams are given throughout the year at a cost of approximately $90.00 each and testing is at the option of the student. Upon graduation, students will be awarded an Associate of Occupational Science degree. |
