Dental Assistant Specialist
The Dental Assistant Specialist Occupational Associate degree program is designed to train students to assist the dentist or dental hygienist in chair side work as well as amalgam, matrices, rubber dams, take dental x-rays, record dental histories, record accurate charting, and other office procedures. Students are also encouraged to develop a professional attitude and a genuine desire to serve their patients in a mature and dependable manner. Dental Assistants will be trained to assume duties and responsibilities in a private dental office, dental school, hospital dental department, state and local public health departments, private dental or oral clinics, as well as, dental specialty offices. Dental Assistant Specialists are trained as expanded function dental assistants (EFDA) which gives them specialized training to enhance employment opportunities in the dental field. There are over 1,000 dentists in a 60 mile radius of Harrisburg. The dental assistant should expect a rewarding future. This is an entry level career option with valuable transferable skills. Expanded Function Dental Assisting (EFDA) requires an addition licensure / certification from the PA Dental Board. |
