Welcome to The Los Angeles Film School’s Game Production Associate of Science Degree Program. This 18-month program was designed by industry professionals to be an immersive and comprehensive educational game studio experience. During critical game studies, you will learn to analyze and appreciate games from a diverse global perspective. You will be introduced to game theory and challenged with creating engaging game experiences using conventional game mechanics. Exploration into the interactive entertainment industry will illustrate the dynamics involved in the business of games and the people and companies who have made history.

Creating original game art (characters, objects, environments, and user interfaces) and adeptly manipulating these assets will allow you to develop your artistic technique. Understanding sound theory and the use of game audio will be emphasized in creating mood as you learn mixing and recording techniques. Game programming courses will advance your skills in essential and advanced programming, including scripting languages, data structures, and tools; the courses will utilize video games and mini-games to enhance your understanding and retention of these materials.

Design considerations are explored using a digital platform as you experiment and develop practical design skills. Nonlinear storytelling and the use of dynamic circumstances and puzzle solving are emphasized as a foundation for good narrative. Project management skills are essential – you will learn the tools and techniques and then apply your new abilities in an agile environment. Managing assets is essential during game production and you will have a hands-on opportunity to build and maintain a reliable asset pipeline for art, audio, and cinematic assets. Prior to your final project, you will be given the opportunity to pitch an original game concept.

During the green lighting process, you will be collaborating and competing with other students to get your game into production. Once your studio team’s project is green lit, you’ll begin the pre-production process – constructing the game design document and technical design document – as you make your final planning arrangements before entering the production stage. The final project will commence during the game production courses and your studio team will demonstrate a culmination of skill, teamwork, planning, technique, final presentation and professionalism in producing a playable game.

Spend quality time with our faculty, get up close and personal with industry guests, and log real time in a simulated work environment as you prepare for the gaming career of your dreams. Because a foundation in general education is as important as knowing the most current techniques and equipment, learn basic industry skills that include time management, self-motivation, resume writing, communication skills and how to prepare for that first step into the industry.
