Surgical Technology, AS Degree
Surgical Technologists are integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. Scrub, circulating, first assisting, and second assisting surgical technologists have primary responsibilities for maintaining the sterile field, and being constantly vigilant that all members of the team adhere to aseptic technique. The surgical technology program provides the student with an opportunity to develop the technical ability, knowledge and skills required for entry level employment in any surgical setting, hospital operating room or free standing healthcare facility, as a member of the surgical team. The student participates in classroom lecture, intense training in a mock operating room lab setting, and transition to operating rooms in local healthcare facilities. The graduate can demonstrate communications and employability skills and can apply appropriate medical ethics to all areas of the job. |
