Surgical Technology
A Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting before, during, and after surgery. They practice utilizing aseptic technique, passing instruments to a doctor in the proper sequence, while remaining attentive to the details in maintaining sterile fields and a safe environment for the patient. They set up the case according to the procedure or as requested, and will have completed the set-up prior to the doctor’s arrival. Surgical Technologists gown and glove the doctor, keep the instrument table in order during the surgical procedure, manage operating room supplies, and are attentive and knowledgeable about the various surgical procedures. They must have the ability to identify the different medications used during the procedure correctly, and be able to prepare for the end-of-case clean-up. |
