Certificate - Surgical Technology
The Surgical Technology Program consists of coursework and a clinical experience to educate students in all aspects of surgical technology. The extensive practical training in this program will prepare graduates to assist in the care of the surgical patients in the operating room and to function as a member of the surgical team. Surgical technologists will apply theoretical knowledge to the care of patients, in addition to maintaining aseptic technique in the operating room. The Surgical Technology graduate will be able to obtain, prepare, and apply the learned skills to facilitate a surgical procedure. The graduate will be able to pass instruments and sterile items and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure, maintain a sterile field, and prepare instruments, supplies and equipment before and after an operation. The Surgical Technology Program graduate may be eligible for positions such as Second Assisting Technologist, Scrub Surgical Technologist or other related positions.
