Although the economic downturn has resulted in a difficult job market, there are still many industries that are expected to hire a great deal of new workers in the coming years.

For instance, the number of open positions in the healthcare field is slated to increase by more than 22 percent over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As a result, students who are looking for a rewarding career and a high level of job security may want to consider enrolling in a campus-based or online degree program in a related subject.

Job opportunities in this industry range from medical professionals who deal directly with patients to more technical positions that require some technology training. In fact, the need for information technology professionals in this sector is expected to be high as more facilities adopt electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Consequently, many campus-based and online schools are increasing their offerings to help degree seekers answer the growing demand for health information technology professionals. For instance, a North Carolina-based community college recently announced the launch of a program that is specifically intended to prepare students for EHR-related positions, ENCToday.com reports.
