Flexibility may be the key to success for recent graduates of campus-based and online colleges

For many sales and marketing professionals, a campus-based or online college degree can mean the difference between grunt work and a high-paying position. However, some career professionals are suggesting that, due to the uncertain economy, salesmen and women who hold a degree may want to consider taking positions that are just short of their dream jobs.

BMS, a recruiting firm for sales professionals, reports that foot-in-the-door positions could help recent graduates establish a good relationship with their employers. In turn, they may have the opportunity to prove themselves and put their careers on the fast track.

Furthermore, company officials say that - although a campus-based or online degree is preferred by most sales departments - a positive attitude and well-developed skill set could give job candidates a competitive edge.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for sales professionals is slated to increase in many industries, including advertising. Approximately 12,100 new jobs will be created in this field over the next eight years.
