The mission of the Health Insurance Billing and Coding Program is to provide students with the medical and technical knowledge necessary to perform manual and computerized tasks expected of medical billers and coders in today's healthcare industry. Students gain an understanding of the ethics and legal issues of the allied health professions.

Most healthcare facilities need qualified medical coding and billing specialists to accurately bill patients for treatment. This program prepares students for entry level employment as medical coding and billing specialists in doctors’ offices, hospitals and any type of organization that houses medical records.
Program Objectives
Upon completion, the graduate will possess working knowledge in:
Basic medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, human diseases and pathology
Analysis / abstraction of needed medical data from medical records
Basic medical coding and billing skills including hands-on experience with medical application programs
Medical documentation
Assigning and sequencing diagnostic and procedural codes using universally recognized coding systems
