Electrical Systems - Associate in Specialized Technology

The Electrical Systems program prepares students for entry-level positions in the trade. The program provides the student with the knowledge and skills to work with maintenance of electrical systems. The program emphasizes extensive hands-on experience through lab applications of the various theories and current practices. Studies include tools, equipment, procedures, design, installation, control systems, and troubleshooting hard wired programmable logic controlled automated systems. Students also study electrical applications for an industrial setting along with oral and written communication for business and personal improvement.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the program students should:

  • Have a knowledge and understanding of the uses of the NEC Code Book, including understanding how to find and apply codes to specific jobs.
  • Understanding the techniques of basic construction and the ability to use common tools associated with specific techniques.
  • Have a general understanding of job safety and performance standards.
  • Ability to understand and follow OSHA Rules and Regulations
  • Broad understandings of how to read, and interrupt blueprints, and read and create schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Understand, install, and maintain basic motors and controls, as they apply to the electrical field.
  • The ability to perform basic wiring, conduit installation and the installation of electrical services, panels and a basic understanding of low voltage electrical systems.
  • Have an understanding of the career options and requirements in the areas of Commercial, Residential, Industrial electrical field.
  • Have understanding of general educational concepts in mathematics, environmental science, humanities and information literacy.
