As the nursing field continues to grow more complex, individuals who have already earned their nursing license RN may wish to supplement their certifications with a masters degree.

Fortunately, many campus-based and online schools are creating more convenient methods for working nurses to earn a college degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), many schools now offer accelerated masters of science in nursing (MSN) programs, which enable students to earn both their bachelors of science in nursing (BSN) and MSN within three to four years.

However, working professionals may need a more convenient option to enhance their educational qualifications. Fortunately, many nursing schools are creating more flexible degree programs that may be best suited to working students.

For instance, a Florida-based school recently announced that it will make its MSN program available in a fully online format. This course of study will include the same curriculum that is taught on the university's campus and be administered by the same professors who preside over its classrooms.

Individuals who enroll in similar programs may even be able to choose a specialization, such as nursing education or nursing administration.
