According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment opportunities for information technology (IT) managers are expected to increase by about 17 percent through 2018. As a result, many colleges and universities are launching related degree programs in an effort to meet the growing demand for trained professionals.

For example, officials from an online school recently announced that they will launch two new master's programs in information systems (IS) and IT. The IS degree features instruction on the use of technology to generate, process and share information within an organization.

Those who enroll in the IT program can expect to learn about theory and the practical experience that is required for key positions in the field. This degree track offers concentrations in IS and software engineering, which was created to prepare students for senior-level or leadership positions in engineering, programming, security and systems architecture. Additionally, graduates can qualify for positions in computer software engineering, information technology security, network/systems administration and programming.

The school also announced the launch of graduate certificate in IS, which was designed to help working professionals transition into leadership positions.
