In an effort to cater to the changing needs of the sports industry, many colleges are creating masters degree programs that are intended to help budding professionals enter this ever-changing field.
For example, a Wisconsin-based school recently made a sports leadership specialization available to students who are pursuing masters degrees in leadership, The Business Journal reports. This course of study was created in conjunction with the university's athletic department to ensure that students have both managerial skills and expertise in the field.
Students who complete similar programs may also have the opportunity to take on an internship program that could enhance their qualifications. In fact, some schools are working with athletic departments at colleges in their divisions to ensure degree candidates are able to gain firsthand experience while they learn.
These programs could help students compete for jobs in the professional sports industry, as managers and administrators in this field are typically required to have a masters or doctoral degree, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As a result, students who have additional experience could prove to be more valuable to employers.
