As many online colleges continue to make their offerings more feasible for busy students, individuals who are worried that they will be unable to make the time and financial commitments that are typically required of a degree program may find that higher education is within reach.

Online college courses may prove to be particularly beneficial to students who need to complete mandatory classes that are required of their degree program, the Washington Post reports. Because these classes enable students to work at their own pace, an internet-based learning platform may foster a better comprehension of subjects that students struggle to understand.

In addition, a self-scheduled curriculum can prevent busy students from wasting money on foundational classes. According to the news source, some higher education providers are offering basic courses for as low as $39 a month on top of a $99 monthly fee.

Similar programs could enable students to get a head start on a campus-based or online college degree program without accumulating a great amount of debt. According to the College Board, the average cost of attending a traditional four-year college rose by 5.9 percent during the 2007-2008 school year.
