Although the prospect of leaving home to enroll in a campus-based or online college may seem daunting to some students, new research suggests that individuals who move away to pursue further education may have higher success rates.

The Los Angeles Times reports that a recent study of Latino college students revealed that individuals who left home to pursue a degree were more likely to finish college than those who studied at home.

In addition, many colleges are now offering incentives to students who are willing to relocate for their education. Some schools are providing hefty financial aid packages to prospective freshmen from various areas of the country, according to the news source.

Financial aid may motivate students to stay in school rather than quit early, as a recent study found that approximately 70 percent of college dropouts received no help paying for their education, the New York Times reports.

Many students also reported that leaving home during their college years strengthened their relationship with their families and made them more appreciative of their degree and overall educational endeavors.

These experiences could equip students with the life skills they will need to succeed in the workforce, as they may be better able to adapt to various environments and develop business relationships.
