As more companies and organizations work to make their business practices more sustainable, the demand for environmental scientists and specialists is expected to increase. As a result, many campus-based and online schools are tailoring their masters degree programs to enable graduates to work in a wide variety of industries.

For instance, a Washington, DC-based university recently announced it would begin integrating business teachings in its graduate programs in water resources management and applied statistics, the Washington Informer reports. These types of programs are intended to help graduates apply their skills in various environments, as they enable students to gain real-world experiences. As a result, they can learn how their expertise can benefit their employers.

For example, individuals who complete these programs could work as consultants or environmental specialists at nonprofit organizations, corporate offices or government agencies.

In fact, the demand for graduates of similar programs is expected to grow in the coming years.

Government analysts say that career opportunities for environmental scientists and specialists are projected to grow by nearly 30 percent over the next decade.
