Three-year architecture degree allows students to save money

Three-year architecture degree allows students to save money

In an effort to reduce tuition costs for students, colleges are beginning to offer three-year degree programs.

For example, a school in Pennsylvania introduced an accelerated bachelor's degree in interior architecture last year, CBS affiliate KDKA recently reported. School officials say that individuals can save up to $32,000 by taking the expedited path.

Now in its second year, students in the three-year architecture program have expressed their contentment, saying that the early finish gives them a leg up on their peers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that the number of employment opportunities for architects will grow by 16 percent over the next eight years. The bureau says the aging baby boom generation will increase the need for more healthcare facilities and retirement communities.

President Barack Obama recently proposed a $50 billion proposal for infrastructure spending, which he said is needed to repair America's failing bridges and roads. This stimulus money, if approved by Congress, would likely create job opportunities for many architects.

Some online colleges offer degrees in drafting and architecture, allowing students to take classes in the convenience of their own homes.
