A technical college in South Carolina recently signed an agreement with a four-year university that will allow students to pursue a bachelor's degree in agriculture and veterinary science.

According to GWToday.com, individuals who receive their associate's degree in veterinary technology can now transfer to the bigger school. An associate dean at the university said this new partnership will benefit those students who are better served attending a smaller institution straight out of high school.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), professionals who work in the veterinary field help treat diseases and bodily dysfunctions in animals. The BLS reports that prospective doctors in this field must have a medical degree in veterinary science, and a most schools require a significant amount of credit hours at the undergraduate level.

The bureau estimates that employment opportunities for veterinarians will increase by 33 percent over a decade, which is musc faster than most occupations. Americans are increasingly placing a higher value in their pets, according to the BLS, which will lead to more money being spent on animal care.

The median salary in this field is $79,050 per year, according to the bureau.
