University in Texas offers pledge agreement to students in an effort to cut costs

A college in Texas has created a program that aims to reduce tuition expenses for students.

Starting in the fall of 2011, the university will extend a four-year pledge option to scholars. If an individual signs the agreement, he or she will receive a course plan that details the requirements for attaining the degree in four years. If students fulfill their responsibilities but still do not qualify for graduation, the school will provide a grant to cover tuition costs for the next two consecutive semesters.

As part of the agreement, the college will offer up-to-date information that allows students to monitor their progress. In addition, the school will assure that the classes needed to complete the degree in four years are available to scholars.

The institution's president said that colleges have the responsibility to motivate students to graduate in a timely manner, while also making the degree affordable.

According to CollegeBoard.com, private four-year colleges in the U.S., on average, charge $26,273 per year for tuition and fees. Public four-year colleges cost about $7,000 per year for in-state and $11,500 for out-of-state students.
