As the cost of attending a campus-based or online college continues to rise, some organizations are working to help graduate students get through school without accumulating a great deal of debt.

For example, the National Science Foundation recently announced the participants of this year's Graduate Research Fellowship program, which will benefit students who are pursuing masters or doctoral degrees in scientific fields, UNM Today reports.

To be eligible for the annual program, applicants are required to be enrolled in a research-based graduate degree program that focuses on science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Each beneficiary will receive three years of support from the foundation, including a $30,000 annual stipend, a total of $10,500 per year in tuition assistance, a $1,000 one-time international travel allowance and TeraGrid Supercomputer access, according to the organization's website.

These types of programs could help graduate students save money on their education while earning the qualifications they will need to launch high-paying careers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, masters degree holders could earn thousands more per week than those who have only an undergraduate education.
