The healthcare and engineering fields are growing rapidly, which could mean that individuals who have completed campus-based or online college degree programs in either subject could see improved career prospects in the coming months.

In fact, the demand for biomedical engineers who use the principles of engineering to improve the medical field is expected to increase by 72 percent over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Consequently, many campus-based and online colleges have created courses of study that will prepare students to take advantage of the numerous career opportunities in this field. For instance, a Michigan-based college recently opened the application for a new masters program in the field.

Similar courses of study could teach degree candidates to apply the principles of engineering to the medical field in order to improve the ways healthcare professionals prevent, diagnose and treat disease. In addition, biomedical engineers may work to create better methods of patient rehabilitation and approaches to overall health.

Enrollees in these types of programs may take classes on subjects such as human physiology, engineering principles that apply to medicine and health as well as medical device design.
