In the coming years, the demand for highly educated secondary school teachers is expected to increase. As a result, prospective educators may want to consider enrolling in campus-based or online colleges, where they can gain the skills they will need to launch lucrative careers in this constantly growing field.

In fact, the demand for secondary teachers is expected to increase by 13 percent over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

For many teachers, entering a classroom full of students for the first time can be an intimidating experience. While most teaching degree programs include a student teaching requirement, these degree candidates may want to consider enrolling in schools that give them additional opportunities to interact with students.

To help its education students, a California-based school recently created a program that allows budding science teachers to design and host college preparation workshops for high school students and their parents, The Press-Enterprise reports.

At the events, degree candidates will have the opportunity to teach prospective college students about financial aid, grants, scholarships, educational resources, academic motivation and on-campus events.

Similar opportunities could help education students gain the qualifications they will need to land jobs in desirable school districts.
