As more companies expand their cyber security initiatives, many of them are realizing that several members of their staff are affected by these efforts. As a result, some campus-based and online schools are ensuring that their programs in this field introduce students to the various departments that participate in a web-based security team.

For instance, an Alabama-based school recently announced the launch of master's program in information assurance and security that will teach students how engineers, scientists and managers must work together to prevent online threats, NBC affiliate WAFF reports.

Enrollees will be able to choose from business, computer science or engineering tracks. However, all degree seekers will get a sampling of each field, as this course of study was developed through a collaboration between professors from all three disciplines.

Furthermore, degree seekers will learn how to track the physical, personnel and technical aspects of information systems in order to prevent security breaches, such as viruses, industrial espionage and other intrusions.

Similar courses of study could lead students into the fast-growing computer and network administration field, which is expected to create more than 286,000 new jobs over the next eight years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
